Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa transfer news: Brentford unlikely to sell both amid Man Utd, Spurs, Newcastle, Forest interest

Man Utd have agreed a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo; Yoane Wissa is a target for Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest; Mbeumo and Wissa scored 39 Premier League goals between them last season

Brentford are about to sell Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United - but what will that mean for the future of his team-mate Yoane Wissa?

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Mbeumo for a deal that is set to reach £71m including add-ons.

But Sky Sports News understands it is highly unlikely Brentford will sell both Mbeumo and Wissa in this summer transfer window.

That could impact Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, who have all shown an interest in signing Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season.

Forest recently had a bid rejected for the Congo striker. Forest, coincidentally, host Brentford on the opening weekend of the season on August 17, live on Sky Sports.

Newcastle also turned their attention to Wissa after seeing their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike hijacked by Liverpool. The Magpies are currently focusing on recruiting defenders before addressing their attacking situation.

Spurs expressed an interest in Mbeumo before he opted for Man Utd as his first choice, with former Brentford boss Thomas Frank also keen to be reunited with Wissa.

However, Spurs have already addressed their attack by signing Mohammed Kudus for £55m, as well as putting in a contentious £60m bid for Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.

Why do Brentford not want to sell BOTH players?

Brentford believe selling both Mbeumo and Wissa would be such a significant loss of goals and attacking talent that it would be near-impossible for the club to recover via the transfer market.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa confidently celebrated Bryan Mbeumo's retaken penalty before the winger had even hit the ball as the Bees won 2-1 away to Crystal Palace.

In a summer of significant change that has seen head coach Frank join Tottenham and their captain Christian Norgaard join Arsenal, selling both Mbeumo and Wissa is seen as a risk too significant to take.

So United agreeing a deal for Mbeumo would almost certainly rule out the sale of Wissa, who has a year left on his contract, plus an option of a further year.

As news of Mbeumo's £71m fee from United being agreed came through, Brentford sent out an image of Wissa in training on their social media channels.

The forward returned to Brentford's training ground for pre-season training on Monday, alongside Mbeumo - who is now on his way to Manchester.

Brentford, meanwhile, could well replace Mbeumo with Ipswich Town's Omari Hutchinson.

The two clubs held talks on Tuesday ahead of a 5pm deadline on his £35m relegation clause.

Brentford are understood to have reached the levels of the clause but an agreement did not materialise over the structure of the payments.

Hutchinson is understood to be keen on a move to Brentford and is disappointed a deal was not agreed between the clubs.

Brentford remain interested but Ipswich have no intention of selling him despite their relegation to the Championship. He has four years left on his contract.
